Grande Prairie Ladies Volleyball League

The Grande Prairie Ladies Volleyball League (GPLVL) started in the 1980s and has been providing women with the opportunity to play recreational volleyball every since. GPLVL exists to provide Grande Prairie and area women who are 18 years old and older with access to play volleyball weekly in the fall and winter seasons.

GPLVL runs from late-September/early-October to mid-March each year. The league has capacity for 40 teams that play in a tiered system. There are a total of 10 tiers. Each tier plays weekly, varying days between Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. After playing a weekly game, teams rank from 1 to 4. Team 1 moves up a tier, teams 2 and 3 remain in the same tier, and team 4 moves down a tier. Each week all tiers are assigned to a gym to play at.

Games are played at rented gyms generally in Grande Prairie city limits but occasionally, games are played as far as Bezanson.

GPLVL teams operate independently, recruiting their own regular roster players and substitutes as needed. To play, teams must register and submit waivers, have a team representative at the Annual General Meeting, pay league fees and follow league rules throughout the year.

The league is volunteer ran by a board of four women who are focused on community engagement, gym rentals, the year-end tournament and operating the league as a whole.
